To twerk or not to twerk

Kristen Cruz

Artist // Part-Time Chonga
Chulacabra

Being 75% Cuban hasn’t stopped Kristen from embracing her inner “chola” and sassing it up around Miami. She enjoys booty poppin’ to indie/electro/hip hop, drinking cheap beer and throwing shade with friends. She attended New World School of the Arts High School in the Fine Arts program and then studied Illustration at Ringling College of Art and Design so naturally she’s in a constant state of flux, trying to mesh those conflicting art worlds together.

Kristen is drawn to the conceptual and personal work of Frida Khalo, Ana Mendieta, Alex Katz and Felix Gonzalez-Torres, as well as the illustration styling of J.C. Leyendecker, Hope Gangloff, Jillian Tamaki, and Heads of State. She’s inspired by all the big personalities she meets around the 305. Her current goals are to learn Spanish completely so her Abuela can be proud, to be a drummer in a feminist punk band and to see snow for the first time.
